A major urban infrastructure project is currently under construction in Yaoundé at Mokolo, known as the Carrefour Elig Efa. Led by the Yaoundé City Council (Communauté Urbaine de Yaoundé) and executed by the construction company Razel, the project aims to modernize one of the city’s busiest intersections.
The design includes an innovative underground passage (underpass) dedicated to small vehicles, intended to ease traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area. Above ground, a large landscaped urban garden is planned, transforming the intersection into a green public space. More, a bus station shall be constructed just nearby as part of the project.
Once completed, the Carrefour Elig Efa will connect several major routes linking Nkolbisson, Mokolo, Melen, and surrounding neighborhoods, improving mobility across the city. Currently still in progress, the project is expected to significantly reshape traffic circulation and urban space organization in this part of Yaoundé.
