Cameroon Marks International Nurses Day 2026Cameroon observed International Nurses Day on May 12, 2026, under the theme « Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Saves Lives. » The theme called for investment in the nursing workforce and recognition of their role in healthcare delivery.

In the Northwest Region, Nkwen Baptist Hospital in Bamenda hosted a church service for nursing staff, followed by a gathering at the hospital chapel hall. The program included health talks, a procession, and speeches by hospital administrators. The message delivered to policymakers and health authorities was that they must « invest in Nurses to enjoy the economic power of care. »

In the Littoral Region, Mboppi Baptist Hospital in Douala held a program centred on nursing-led services. The focus was on integrated women’s health, including cervical and breast cancer prevention, with nurses leading screening and education efforts.

The CBC Health Services Nurses and Midwives Chapter of the Cameroon Nurses Association, launched during a previous observance at Nkwen Baptist Hospital, also marked the day. The chapter continues to provide in-service training and workshops aimed at improving nursing practice. Its goal is to « contribute to the improvement of the health of citizens. »
